International Contemporary Arts Festival - http://www.musicanuevamalaga.com/en/index.html
Join us in the sunny south of Spain for the Improvisation for Performance Workshop with choreographer Lisa Naugle. This ten-day experiential intensive is for dancers, musicians, and choreographers. Daily sessions will prepare the body and mind for creative activity that is centered on somatic experience, composition processes and structured improvisation.
The workshop will provide participants with a community of artists who will share in the composition process to create structures for solo, small ensemble and large group improvisation. Some of the approaches to composition will explore translation of gesture between dancers and musicians, and interaction with video. Participants with artistic vision and prior professional experience in dance, music performance, choreography and improvisation are invited to make project proposals for performances.
Twenty-five participants will be selected for the workshop. Additional opportunities for artistic exploration will be available through cross registration with other programs such as the Video Intermedia Intensive and the International Contemporary Festival for Composers. .
Offered in association with Música Nueva Málaga, the Improvisation for Performance Workshop opens on June 18 with the first Andalusia Art Film Festival, two nights of stellar fine art films presented in an open air theatre. The schedule is coordinated with two complementary workshops: the Video Intermedia Intensive and the International Contemporary Festival for Composers, providing opportunities for creative connections with dancers, musicians and others. Work created by participants in the Improvisation for Performance Workshop and the Video Intermedia Intensive will be featured in the media installation gallery and a dance/media performance on June 25 and 26. More on registration.
The location for the workshop is Frigiliana, a beautiful and historic Spanish hill town in the heart of Analusia, conveniently located on the Mediterranean coast, 30 minutes from the international airport at Málaga. Picturesque and quiet, Frigiliana is only 5 miles away from the spectacular beaches and nightlife of Spain’s Costa del Sol. More on the workshop facilities.
